RACINE, Wis. - Racine Ald. Mollie Jones has died, the city announced on Thursday.

"Mollie Jones was a fierce advocate for her constituents. She seemed to know everyone by name," Racine Mayor Cory Mason said in a statement. "I had the pleasure of working with her on everything from voter access to restoring brick pavers on College Avenue. She was an exceptional public servant and a dear friend. She will be sorely missed."

As the longtime chair of the Common Council's Public Works and Services Committee, the city said Jones played a pivotal role in strengthening Racine’s infrastructure and public services. She also served on numerous boards and commissions, always championing the best interests of the community. Her legacy is one of dedication, advocacy, and a profound commitment to the people of Racine.
"I join with all those who were fortunate enough to know Alder Jones as we mourn her passing," said Mason. "Over the coming days and weeks, we will pause to reflect on her life and legacy to our community. On behalf of the City of Racine, I offer heartfelt condolences to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who loved her. Her passing is a tremendous loss, and she will be greatly missed."

The backstory:
Jones represented Racine's 2nd District, located on the south side and roughly bounded by Lake Michigan, 21st Street, 11th Street and Holborn Street. The district includes the Southside Historic District and is home to the worldwide headquarters of S.C. Johnson, including its Frank Lloyd Wright buildings.
There are 15 seasons on the Racine Common Council.
