Purdue board votes to award Andrew Boldt posthumous degree

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WITI) -- The Purdue University Board of Trustees voted on Friday, February 21st to approve a posthumous degree for 21-year-old Andrew Boldt of West Bend.

"I believe in my heart Andrew Boldt earned his degree, probably way better than I ever did, and I would love to see this happen," said Marquette University High School teacher Jean Morrell. "He represents Purdue so very well."

Boldt, a senior at Purdue, was fatally shot and stabbed inside the school’s electrical engineering building on Tuesday, January 21st. A fellow student and teaching assistant, 23-year-old Cody Cousins, has been criminally charged in this case.

Boldt was a student at Marquette University High School before attending Purdue University.

"I do think that if you can step back away from it, you can just see the way he lived his life was such an example," said Morrell. "Just the reminder of the full life that he did live in 21 short years."

A scholarship has been created in Boldt’s honor — and donations are being accepted for that scholarship fund. The fund will be used to provide financial assistance to eighth-grade students of Catholic parishes in Washington County who desire to attend Marquette University High School or Divine Savior Holy Angels High School.

Awards will be given to those who exemplify the character and spirit of Boldt — carrying on his legacy of excellence. Checks can be made payable to Saint Frances Cabrini Parish, with “Boldt Scholarship” in the memo line.
