Project complete: Security enhancements added to Racine County Courthouse

RACINE COUNTY (WITI) -- Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling is pleased to announce the completion of security enhancements to the Racine County Courthouse.   A security checkpoint has been established and will be staffed by security personnel during regular business hours.

The security enhancements and procedures were put into place by Sheriff Schmaling in order to provide increased safety and security to the general public and courthouse employees.

Starting Tuesday July 29, 2014, visitors will be required to enter the courthouse via the east plaza which will be equipped with a security checkpoint and staffed by security personnel.

Prior to entry, individuals will be required to have any bags or personal belongings checked through a security scanner.

Additionally, each person will be required to pass through a metal detector.

The new courthouse security checkpoint is similar to the current security checkpoint in place at the Law Enforcement Center.

Members of the public should allow a reasonable amount of time to complete day to day business at the courthouse.

All other entrances into the courthouse will be secured and public access will only be allowed through the east plaza off of Wisconsin Avenue.

The following items are prohibited from the Courthouse, as well as the Law Enforcement Center:

To assist the public with payments to the Treasurer's Office, a drop box is located outside the Courthouse on Wisconsin Avenue.  Payments may be dropped in the box and if a self-addressed stamped envelope is enclosed, the Treasurers Office will mail a receipt to the payee.
