Police say 17-year-old boy in custody in Sheboygan homicide

SHEBOYGAN (WITI) -- Sheboygan police investigating the death of a man have taken a 17-year-old boy into custody who, according to police, is a family member of the victim.

Authorities say it happened in the early morning hours of Thursday, January 30th, at an apartment complex in the 2100 block of Meadowland Drive.

"The one thing they did ask is if they had seen anyone dragging or carrying things to the dumpster -- any type of unusual bags or whatever," said neighbor Mike Mandel.

Police say they were contacted by a woman who was concerned about the whereabouts of her ex-husband. Officers accompanied the woman to the home on Meadowland Drive, where the man was found dead.

"All we know is when the gentleman rented the apartment three months ago, he had a great work record and had no problems with any record with the police department, things of that nature. He was a nice gentleman," said Art Reinhart, a neighbor in the apartment complex. "It's scary to the people in the apartments. There are a lot of people already talking about how nervous they get when something like that happens. It's a sad situation."

The 17-year-old has not yet been charged in connection with the death.

An autopsy on the victim is planned for later Thursday. The investigation is ongoing.
