Police identify man shot & killed as he was leaving a house party; no one in custody

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police now say a homicide that occurred early Sunday morning, June 21st happened in the 4500 block of W. Eggert Place -- not the 5100 block of N. Sherman Boulevard as initially reported.

It happened around 3:15 a.m. Sunday.

Police have identified the victim as 21-year-old Tevin Beanland. Police believe he was shot as he was leaving a house party -- when shots rang out nearby. Despite the life-saving efforts of the Milwaukee Fire Department, Beanland was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second victim -- a 26-year-old man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

"There was a lot of lights, a lot of tape everywhere, cars in the street, police in the street -- people yelling, crying," a neighbor who didn't want to be identified said.

The neighbor FOX6 News spoke with says her community is dangerous.

"I really don`t let the kids play out in the front because of what be going on here. They shoot all the time over here, but it was never that close to us," the neighbor said.

Another woman who also didn't want to be identified told FOX6 News she heard five gunshots.

"I heard, 'pop, pop, pop' and then I looked out the window. The same car that was right here was in the back of my house," the woman said.

These neighbors say they don't know who is responsible for this shooting, but they say violence in their neighborhood is nothing new.

"Somebody will just start shooting. It`s horrible. It`s bad. It`s bad that you can`t walk outside in broad daylight and everybody shooting. Like what for? It`s for nothing," a neighbor said.

Shamar George and Stephanie Higgins were headed to church when they learned of this homicide.

"If we had more saved people and people all coming together, this kind of stuff, going back and forth, fighting and killing each other and fighting each other, this stuff wouldn`t happen," George and Higgins said.

"It's just sad, man. I wish we could just stop it. Just stop it. It's horrible," a neighbor said.

The investigation into this shooting is ongoing.

No one is in custody.
