Police have suspect in construction thefts, but "haven't been able to match equipment with owners"

WAUKESHA -- Waukesha police have arrested a suspect accused in a number of construction equipment thefts across Waukesha County over the past two years -- and now, they're looking to return that equipment to its owners.

Daniel Wincapaw

Police say Daniel Wincapaw targeted construction equipment trailers, skid loaders, mini-excavators and their attachments as well as other contractor tools -- with hundreds of thousands of dollars of big equipment stolen.

Wincapaw was arrested after a search warrant revealed evidence and records of stolen equipment and sales. This, after a tip led authorities to Wincapaw.

He has not yet been officially charged in this case.

Some of the stolen items were recovered from farmers and businesses in Walworth County.

Police say several pieces of skid loader attachments have been located -- but police haven't been able to match them to any police reports on file.

"We haven't been able to match up all the equipment we recovered to the rightful owners. Right now, we're asking for your help. If you bought anything from this man, construction equipment -- you should contact the Waukeseha Police Department," Lt. Thomas Wagner said. "We do know he was actively selling a lot of items in the Walworth County area."

If you have any information about equipment that Wincapaw may have sold, or if you are missing any skid loader attachments, but have not yet filed a police report, please contact Detective David Feyen at (262) 524-3784.

Wincapaw is currently being held at the Waukesha County Jail on a probation hold.
