Milwaukee County-Racine County police chase; driver charged
MILWAUKEE - A Milwaukee man is accused of leading authorities on a nearly 25-mile, multi-county chase on Sunday, Dec. 8. It happened after a carjacking the previous day.
The Backstory
Police were called for a carjacking near 19th and Mineral on the morning of Saturday, Dec. 7. According to a criminal complaint, the victim said she was headed home from a grocery store when she pulled over because her trunk hadn't properly closed.

Once the victim closed the trunk and went to get back in, court filings said a man – later identified as 46-year-old Daniel Morris – grabbed her door and prevented her from closing it. He then pulled the victim out of the car, got in and drove off.
The next morning, on Dec. 8, Milwaukee police were on patrol near Holton and Locust when they learned Shorewood police lost sight of a vehicle in that area during a pursuit of a stolen SUV.
MPD officers spotted the SUV near 8th and North and turned their lights and sirens on to pull it over, but the driver – later identified as Morris – took off down the interstate.
Prosecutors said Morris led authorities on a nearly 25-mile pursuit into Racine County. Wisconsin Department of Transportation video showed the SUV getting off the interstate by driving the wrong way down an I-94 on-ramp at State Highway 20. The driver then drove down WIS-20 and the wrong way up the on-ramp.
While state troopers and Racine County deputies tried using spike strips at least three times to stop the chase, court filings said they didn't work. Instead, the chase ended when the SUV ran out of gas.
What's Next
Morris is charged in the case with robbery, second-degree recklessly endangering safety, fleeing police and driving a vehicle without the owner's consent.
Court records show Morris is being held in the Milwaukee County Jail on $30,000 bond. He is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 18.
