Officials: Woman found dead in Milwaukee alley may have died from drug overdose
MILWAUKEE -- A 30-year-old woman found dead in an alley near 36th and Florist in Milwaukee may have died from a drug overdose, according to officials with the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office. The victim was identified on Tuesday, September 1st as Emily Hastings.
Officials say no trauma was found at Hastings' autopsy on Tuesday. The final cause of death is pending additional toxicology testing.
Hastings' body was discovered near 36th and Florist around 6:15 a.m. on Monday, August 31st. The body was covered, lying near a garage door.
According to the medical examiner's report released on Tuesday, Hastings' mother told officials her daughter "has been using drugs since she was 14. She began using heroin when she was 18. The mother stated that Emily was just released from the House of Correction on Friday." The mother also told officials her daughter had been staying with a friend in Milwaukee -- and also had a "history of bi-polar disorder."
