Obama cancels Green Bay campaign event due to Hurricane Sandy

MADISON (AP) -- President Barack Obama has canceled his planned campaign stop on Tuesday in Green Bay due to Hurricane Sandy.

The White House issued a statement Monday saying Obama was going to stay in Washington, D.C., so he could monitor the storm and handle its response.

Republican Mitt Romney planned to campaign in the Milwaukee area on Monday, and his running mate Paul Ryan planned to be in the state on Wednesday.

There was no immediate word on when or if Obama's Green Bay visit would be rescheduled with the election just eight days away.
