New development planned at 31st & Capitol to manage storm water, reduce flooding

MILWAUKEE -- A new development is planned for Milwaukee's northwest side to manage storm water and reduce flooding.

It will be located on a parcel of land at N. 31st and Capitol Drive.

City officials, those with the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District and other stakeholders want to design "green infrastructure solutions."

The long-term goal is to revitalize the 30th Street Corridor.

They're in the beginning stages of figuring out how to collect the storm water and use vegetation to alleviate the burden on the sewers and the lake, while beautifying the space and creating jobs.

"We`re knitting together the different sides of Capitol Drive, we`re trying to bring people together, we`re saying we need jobs and we need them now," Howard Snyder, executive director of the Northwest Side Community Development Corporation said.

The project was the focus of the NWSCDC's annual economic development symposium Thursday, October 27th.
