MPD: Convicted felon arrested minutes after he robbed business, shot at employee

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police arrested a convicted felon minutes after he robbed a business and shot at an employee.

District Five officers responded to a business near N. 20th Street and W. Capitol Drive around 5:30 p.m. on February 13th for a report of an armed robbery. The security guard at the business, a 30-year-old Milwaukee man, told officers a suspect was trying to leave the store with ten cans of coffee he had not paid for.

The guard tried to stop him but as the suspect was fleeing he pulled out a gun and fired a shot at the guard. The guard was not hit. Squads in the area located the suspect a few minutes later in the 3900 block of N. 19th Place and took him into custody.

A silver revolver was found in a glove that was on the ground near the suspect.

The suspect, a 61-year-old Milwaukee man, is a convicted felon with a criminal record dating back to 1981. MPD will present this case to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the coming days.
