Mitchell International Airport may shut down "E" concourse

MILWAUKEE -- Mitchell International Airport is seeking approval to shut down one of its concourses in what is considered a bit of a down-sizing.

Under the proposal obtained by FOX6 News partner The Business Journal, the county-run airport would shut down Concourse E, the smallest of the three concourses with 10 gates.

"This could save a lot of money because we wouldn't need to pay the expenses of having the security check point officers, and we wouldn't have to pay for maintenance and custodial costs and so on," said Airport Spokesperson Pat Rowe.

Delta Air Lines already has announced plans to move from Concourse E to Concourse D, leaving only United Airlines, which recently acquired Continental Airlines, on E using two gates.

"Those concourses have wider checkpoints, security checkpoints with more lanes," said Rowe.

Airport officials say the changes should mean better choices for airline passengers.
