Milwaukee YMCA names Julie Tolan as new CEO

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- There is a new leader taking the reins of the Milwaukee YMCA.  Julie Tolan has been named the new CEO and she is making history.

"I think this is really privileged work and I think our community needs the Y to be the very best that it can be," Tolan said.

She is the first female CEO of the organization.

"It wasn't that she was a woman, it was that she was really the best candidate.  She was the strongest candidate that we had," YMCA board member Rick Schmidt said.

Tolan has previously worked as Vice President, University Advancement at Marquette University.  She is currently a consultant.

"She's been working in the Milwaukee area her whole life and she's been able to establish terrific relationships with people all over town at all different  levels," Schmidt said.

Tolan begins her new job in August.
