Milwaukee Public Schools to be CLOSED on Tuesday, Jan. 7th

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee Public Schools will be closed Tuesday, January 7th due to the continuing extremely cold and dangerous weather conditions, the district announced Monday.

The closure includes all after-school activities.

Designated essential staff, identified by their supervisors, should report to work.

The Tuesday closure follows MPS’ Friday decision to close school on Monday due to the extreme cold. MPS officials made the decisions in the interest of the safety of the district’s more than 78,000 students and its staff after evaluating, among other things, the temperature and the wind chill. MPS’ most recent two-day closure due to cold temperatures was in February 2007.

Families are being notified through the district’s automated phone system, text alerts, the district website, social media and through news media.

MPS schools that follow the traditional and Rufus King/Reagan calendars will be in session on Wednesday, January 8th. The weather will be cold, so district leaders are asking families to please dress children accordingly.

Families that need assistance due to the extreme conditions can contact the 2-1-1 helpline to be connected with agencies that may be able to help.
