Milwaukee Hop streetcar, garbage truck crash surveillance
The Milwaukee DPW released video on April 14 from a crash involving the Hop streetcar and a garbage truck. The crash happened March 27.
MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee's Hop streetcar was involved in a collision with a garbage truck Monday morning, March 27, near Milwaukee and Wells.
The collision caused a temporary suspension of service.
"Roughly 8:30 this morning, the northbound streetcar vehicle was going up this street, and a westbound private garbage truck collided essentially T-boning our streetcar vehicle, pushing it to the corner, and it took out a traffic signal," said Brian DeNeve, Milwaukee Department of Public Works spokesperson.

Milwaukee streetcar struck by garbage truck

The driver of the hop, a 43-year-old Milwaukee woman, was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-fatal injuries. She was the one that notified officials of the collision. There were no passengers on board the streetcar.
There were two people inside the garbage truck.

For roughly nine hours, city workers used cranes and other machinery to slowly lift the streetcar back onto its tracks. The roadway was then reopened to traffic.

FOX6 News reached out to Eagle Disposal, the Franksville company that owns the garbage truck involved in the crash. We have not received a reply.
