Milwaukee garbage cart changes go into effect Monday

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- New rules for garbage pickup go into effect for Milwaukee residents on Monday, January 27th. Starting then, residents will need to take their garbage carts to the curb as they do during the rest of the year.

The carts must be roadside by 7 a.m. and returned back to a storage location by 10 p.m.

The City acknowledges that although it may be a slight inconvenience for residents, it's a big help for workers.

"We will be able to reduce our number of routes and we also anticipate fewer workplace injuries because workers will not be walking up and down icy driveways -- carts will be at curbside," said Wanda Brooker with the City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works.

The change only impacts garbage carts, not recycling carts.
