Milwaukee County Courthouse Christmas tree gets harvested

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Christmas is on its way to the Milwaukee County Courthouse. It’s become a tradition to have someone in the community donate the tree that is lit and put on display inside the courthouse. This year, that tree came from an east side home's front yard.

“I`ve walked by this tree many times in the neighborhood, so now I`ll get to walk by it in the courthouse,” said Chris Abele, the Milwaukee County Executive.

The home belongs to Nick Glaisner. He said not having the tree in his front yard will be an adjustment. “It's going to be bright, it`s going to be different. We`re going to have to plant a new tree there I think. Some of the kids are protesting the tree coming down, so it’s going to be a little sad, but it’s pretty exciting.”

Glaisner’s tree was voted for by people on Facebook, and on the day the tree came down, almost his entire neighborhood came to watch.

“It's great, what an honor. It's a good-looking tree though,” said Glaisner. And now, when it’s in the courthouse, even more people will be able to enjoy it.

“It`s a beautiful tree. I think everyone when they see it with the lights and ornaments on will feel the holiday spirit,” said Abele.

The tree will be brought into the courthouse rotunda and decorated for the county tree lighting on December 4th at 4 p.m.
