Man arrested for hit-and-run crash near 27th & Hadley

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A 23-year-old Milwaukee man has been arrested in connection with the hit-and-run crash that occurred near 27th and Hadley on Wednesday, May 28th.

According to police, the 23-year-old allegedly struck 21-year-old Cameron Ward. His grandmother, Sandra, is still shaken up over the incident.

"It's frightening to see when anyone is hit by a car, and then, when you realize this is your own too," said Ward.

The hit-and-run crash was seen by a surveillance camera near the intersection of 27th and Hadley.

Ward says she's just relieved Cameron is alive.

"His face is scarred-up, pretty bad. His hands are scarred-up. You can see the scars on his arms, and on his legs. His knees, his knees are really sore," said Ward.

Ward says she's also pleased with the progress in the investigation and offers forgiveness to the suspect.

"I have a deep belief in my heart that when things like this happen, the person that did this suffers; they're traumatized by it also. And I was asking him to come forward so 'you' can start healing. And now, I think that process will begin for this young man," said Ward.

The suspect has been referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office for possible charges of duty upon striking - causing injury and operating after suspension - causing injury.
