Investigation into Elm Grove house fire is ongoing

ELM GROVE (WITI) -- Multiple departments responded to the scene of a house fire Tuesday night, February 18th in Elm Grove.

The fire broke out in a single-family home near Brojen Drive and Gebhardt Road. The home was occupied by two adult family members.

Initially, responding police officers and neighbors were uncertain if all occupants were out of the home and one officer attempted to enter the home to check for a male adult family member that was unaccounted for.

Officials say the male family member was able to exit the home safely.

The officer suffered smoke inhalation and was transported to an area hospital.

There were working smoke detectors in the home that activated and alerted family members who called emergency services and evacuated the home.

An official at the scene tells FOX6 News the homeowners at 1805 Brojen came home to smoke detectors going off, and noticed flames in a main level laundry room.

Family members were able to get out safety -- and the fire appeared to be out as of about 10:30 Tuesday night.

There were no injuries to family members, citizens, or other emergency personnel.
