Information from victim helps Milwaukee police solve at least three crimes

MILWAUKEE -- An alert victim who provided officers with the license plate of a suspect helped District One officers solve at least three crimes in downtown Milwaukee and on the east side.

The most recent incident happened around 10:20 a.m. on September 11th when the victim, a 24-year-old woman, was walking in the area of Oakland Avenue and Kane Place.

According to police, male suspect in his car drove past the victim and parked his car about a block away. The suspect walked up to the victim and grabbed the victim’s wallet and cell phone out of her hands. He then fled from the scene in his car.

The victim in this incident was able to memorize the car’s license plate and provide that to officers. Through their investigation, MPD officers determined the make/model of the vehicle and a potential suspect and on September 12th took the suspect into custody near Teutonia and Silver Spring.

The suspect, a 21-year-old Milwaukee man, confessed to this crime and two more theft incidents, an August 17 theft in area of Water Street and Erie Street and an August 23 theft also near Water and Erie.

MPD will present this case to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the coming days.
