"I hadn’t met the girl for me until Brittany:" Brittany Maynard's husband shares their love story
OREGON (WITI) -- We’re learning more about the beautiful life Brittany Maynard shared with her husband, Dan Diaz.
Diaz spoke exclusively to PEOPLE just a few weeks before Brittany’s death, with Brittany’s blessing.
He told PEOPLE, “She’s just a great person to know; a good person to be around: attractive, energetic and outgoing and just a personality you really get attracted to.”
Diaz, 43, was 35 years old when he met Maynard. She was 23.
“Jokingly, she would say I’d certainly been single long enough because there was an age difference between us. And ‘What’s taken me so long?’ and my answer was, honestly, that I hadn’t met the girl for me until Brittany," Dan Diaz told People.
After getting down on “bended knee,” the two wed in 2012 after a five-year relationship.
Dan Diaz told PEOPLE Brittany planned much of the wedding and for the honeymoon, she wanted an adventure, so they went to Patagonia.

Maynard, 29, said she had terminal brain cancer and would take medication to end her life under Oregon’s “Death with Dignity Act.” She died Saturday, November 1st.
Advocacy group Compassion & Choices said, “Brittany chose to make a well thought out and informed choice to Die With Dignity in the face of such a terrible, painful, and incurable illness. She moved to Oregon to pass away in a little yellow house she picked out in the beautiful city of Portland.”
