Read the full statement below:

December 7, 1941 is remembered in history as “a date which will live in infamy,” and marks the attack on Pearl Harbor. 75 years later, we honor those who risked their lives and well-being to serve and protect our country from harm, we remember those who lost their lives on that fateful day, and we stand with those who continue to fight for our nation today.

The attack on Pearl Harbor serves as a reminder that the price of our freedom is not free. It comes at a steep cost, one that is paid by our brave men and women in uniform.

As we remember and honor those who lost their lives during the attack on Pearl Harbor, let us also take a moment to thank those who currently serve in our Armed Forces. These incredible men and women make the conscious decision every day to put their nation before themselves. They are often far away from their homes and families, sometimes even putting themselves in harm’s way in order to protect our ideals and freedoms.

Today, and every day, we honor the brave members of our Armed Forces, both past and present, and bear in mind the debt of gratitude owed to them for defending our communities, our state, and the United States of America.

Governor Walker issued Executive Order #224 ordering the Flag of the United States and the Flag of the State of Wisconsin be flown at half-staff in observance of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. In addition, Governor Walker also proclaimed today as Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.
