Freshwater surfing event to be held in Sheboygan
SHEBOYGAN (AP) -- The largest freshwater surfing event in the world is being held along Lake Michigan in southeastern Wisconsin.
The Dairyland Surf Classic will be held in Sheboygan from Friday through September 1.
Labor Day weekend is the traditional kickoff for the Great Lakes surfing season because the area needs cold and windy conditions to produce waves and big breaks to surf.
Sheboygan has 22 different breaks on its five-mile coastline of Lake Michigan and is considered one of the top spots for freshwater surfing in the world.
This year is the 24th time the event is being held in Sheboygan.
