Former corrections officer pleads not guilty in child sex assault case

WAUKESHA CO. (WITI) -- A former corrections officer accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a boy under the age of 16 entered a not guilty plea on Wednesday, January 8th.

46-year-old Troy Kassens was arrested on November 21st. He is facing felony charges including two counts of second degree sexual assault of a child and one count of child enticement - sexual contact.

Kassens worked as a correctional officer for Waukesha County for 19 years. He has since been terminated from the position.

According to a criminal complaint Kassens inappropriately touched the victim, a boy under the age of 16, on 10 to 15 separate occasions at the defendant's home. There are also allegations of other, multiple assaults.  After the first incident, Kassens allegedly gave the boy $10.

The victim claims the assaults have been happening since he was in eighth grade. Kassens admitted to the encounters when questioned by police.

"This case remains extremely severe and the state believes the danger of flight and the defendant's failure to appear is extremely high," said prosecutor Brian Juech.

Prosecutors pushed for bail to be set at $50,000, however the judge agreed to set bail at $10,000 with certain conditions.

"What the court is going to do is set bail at $10,000 and require the signing of an additional $25,000 signature bond," said Court Commissioner Thomas Pieper.

Kassens has also been ordered to stay at least one mile away from the alleged victim and can not have any contact with any minors except his own two children.
