Flags lowered to half-staff to honor Nelson Mandela

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Gov. Scott Walker issued Executive Order #126 on Friday, December 6th -- lowering flags to half-staff in remembrance of the former president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, who died Thursday at the age of 95.

Gov. Walker released the following statement:

"Nelson Mandela was an inspiring man, who stood as a distinct symbol of hope in the anti-apartheid movement and unified the country of South Africa as its first black president.  The courage and bravery Mandela exhibited in the face of injustice inspired not only his nation, but also the world."

The flags of the United States and Wisconsin will be flown at half-staff starting today, and ending at sunset on Monday, December 9th.
