Exhibit gives library visitors new access to Dr. King's writings
MILWAUKEE -- A new exhibit at the Milwaukee Public Library gives visitors a chance to learn more about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and provide access to a digital collection of his writings. The new exhibit features nearly 200,000 digital images of Dr. King's writings during the Civil Rights movement.
"It is so important, and we just wanted to make it happen. We wanted the citizens of Milwaukee to have access to the exhibit," Paula Kiely, the director of the Milwaukee Public Library said.
Jim Popp is the president of J.P. Morgan Chase in Wisconsin. The company provided both financial and technical support for the project.
"There's a place for people to actually create their own dream and digitize their own dream -- stick it on the wall, take a picture of it and put in our private collection forever. The legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. is, I think, what we all espouse to be like," Popp said.
Keisha Krumm and her seven-month-old daughter, Oliva left their mark on exhibit's wall.
"I think it's a great opportunity for Milwaukee residents and a great part of sharing the history of our country and our community," Krumm said.
The Dr. King exhibit is free and available to the public at the Milwaukee Public Library through Thursday, August, 30th.
