"Every little girl should have a Barbie:" Eight-year-old girl launches Barbie doll drive for Christmas

RICHTON PARK, Illinois – Have you ever loved something so much, you just had to share? For an eight-year-old Chicago area girl, it's Barbies.

Jocilyn Martin Richardson

Eight-year-old Jocilyn Martin Richardson has Barbies all over her house. But these Barbies are for other young girls.

This holiday season, Richardson says she wishes she could change the law -- and make it a requirement that every little girl have a Barbie.

"Every little girl should have a Barbie," Richardson said.

From that desire, an idea was developed. Richardson would host a holiday Barbie drive -- collecting donated Barbies to give to little girls in need.

"It has been an adventure, to say the least," Richardson's mother, Kellie Martin said. "It's odd because as a parent, I'm learning from her. Having the heart of a child, the innocence -- just being pure in heart and thought that way, it's a big deal to me. I think it's great."

Richardson and her mother set a goal to collect 1,000 Barbies this Christmas.

Richardson says if, one day, every young girl in the world had a Barbie...

"It would be a fair world, because every little girl in the world should have a Barbie. Some countries may not have Barbies, so that would be a good thing for America -- to give Barbies to those countries that don't have Barbies. If they gave Barbies, that could end a war," Richardson said.

And wouldn't that be something.
