MILWAUKEE - During the winter months, we are all looking for ways to save money when it comes to our homes. Now, there are new energy-efficient opportunities that could help.
For the past seven years, a home near the corner of 1st and Ring in Milwaukee has been Danny Miller's pride and joy.
"Me being a single guy, I could actually spend the time to fix it up like I wanted," Miller said.

Part of those fixes meant changes to the attic and basement.
"You don’t have the moist damp smell anymore," Miller said. "It’s like an inch, inch and a half foam insulation that they put on the walls."

That may have made a big different in Miller's home and wallet.
"I don’t run my furnace as high as I used to. There’s a difference," Miller said.
Miller said the repairs would have cost him about $10,000, but came next to nothing thanks in large part to Green Homeowners United and rebates available for more energy-efficient homes.

"Families can take advantage of tax credits and make it affordable and easier to upgrade things like doors, windows, insulation, heating systems and more," said Kevin Cane, Green Homeowners United.
Leaders stood in front of Miller's home Friday to show there are more opportunities like his – thanks to the Affordable Clean Energy Plan. Wisconsin is get $149 million for a home energy rebate program.
"There’s money simply waiting for you to be able to tap into," said Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson.

Energy efficiency programs can save Wisconsin homeowners thousands, officials say
Milwaukee County officials gathered on Friday, Feb. 2 to talk about energy efficiency programs available to Wisconsin residents that they say can save homeowners thousands of dollars in upfront costs and reduce their utility bills for the long-run.
That is cost savings Miller is happy he took advantage of – and encouraging others to do the same.
"I appreciate the program," Miller said.
