Cabbies cry foul over new criteria that judges their body odor

CALIFORNIA (WITI) -- Cabbie say a new piece of criteria used by officials to judge them really stinks!

Body odor is one of 52 pieces of criteria used by San Diego International Airport officers to judge taxi drivers.

Any cabbie who fails the test is told to change before picking up their next customer -- but cabbies are firing back -- saying the stipulation reeks of prejudice and discrimination -- and that the litmus set perpetuates a stereotype that predominantly foreign-born cabbies have horrible hygiene issues.

Along with smell, inspectors also have a checklist of tests that cabbies must pass, including adequate tire treads, good brakes and proof of insurance.
