Brookfield students could be rewarded for doing well in school
BROOKFIELD (WITI) -- Brookfield Central High School students who do well at school and show up on time could be rewarded for their responsible efforts!
It's called "senior privilege" -- an incentive that Brookfield Central High School senior Jessica Schemling proposed that would allow all seniors to leave the building during the day if they meet certain criteria.
"It would be put into your schedule like a class so you don't get to pick when you have it. If you have it first or fourth hour you kind of get a better deal," Schmeling explained.
The privilege would be open to honor roll students with at least a 3.25 GPA.
"3.25 is our honor roll and honor roll students you're a certain type of person who enjoys school and likes doing well," Schemling said.
Students must also be in good standing in terms of attendance, with no unexcused absences.
Brookfield Central Principal Don LaBonte supports the idea and says there has been only positive feedback from the district.
"I think it might provide that extra added incentive that kids who are on the bubble need. Most of our kids try to do really well," LaBonte said.
"Obviously I want to keep up my grades and make sure that other students have something that they're rewarded for," Schemling said.
Brookfield East High School could also follow this "senior privilege." The proposal will be discussed at a school board meeting in two weeks, and could be implemented next school year, though the goal is 2015.
