Brad Schimel has been elected attorney general, so now, Waukesha County needs a new D.A.

WAUKESHA COUNTY (WITI) -- Brad Schimel, who is currently serving as Waukesha County District Attorney was elected to the office of attorney general in the General Election held this past Tuesday, November 4th, and now, Governor Scott Walker is seeking applicants for a new Waukesha County District Attorney.

The new appointee will serve out the remainder of the unexpired term and will be up for election in November 2016.

FOX6 News has learned Waukesha County Deputy District Attorney Sue Opper is considering applying for the District Attorney position.

Opper tells FOX6 News she has been considering applying since Schimel announced he would be running for attorney general. Opper says Schimel has indicated he would support her if she were to apply.

Opper says if she were to apply and be appointed District Attorney, she would focus on the heroin problem in Waukesha County -- saying she would work closely with the county's drug unit to tackle the problem. Another area she says she would focus on is growing and developing the sensitive crimes department.

Opper has worked for the Waukesha County District Attorney's Office for 23 years.

Opper tells FOX6 News she hopes a decision will be made on the county's next District Attorney before Schimel leaves office on December 31st.

Those interested in the position are asked to submit a cover letter, resume and list of references. An application is available on Governor Scott Walker's website: www.walker.wi.gov.

Resumes, cover letters, and applications must be received no later than 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 26, 2014.
