After two high-profile fundraisers, Azana victim's family says they've been left out

BROOKFIELD -- Money has poured in to support the families of the victims of the Azana Salon & Spa shooting in Brookfield. However, one victim's father says he's been left in the dark.

The pain is still very fresh for Keith Hanson. His daughter, Maelyn Lind was one of three killed in the October 21st shooting at the Azana Salon & Spa. Radcliffe Haughton killed three and injured four, before turning the gun on himself.

"How could this happen to such an incredible woman?" Hanson said.

Making things harder is a growing financial burden Lind left behind. The mother of four worked three jobs to make ends meet.

"Just because she's gone doesn't mean the bills stop, that's for sure," Hanson said.

Hanson was hopeful money raised at two high-profile fundraisers would help out, but he says he was never told about either. Hanson says his family has not been contacted by either the SURG Restaurant Group that hosted a fundraiser this week at the 8-Twelve Restaurant, or those in charge of the "Cut It Out" event held Tuesday, involving nearly 100 salons.

Combined, both had a goal to raise more than $150,000.

"There's been no communication. We have not seen anything. I hear about everything and I'm sure it's going to take awhile to figure everything out," Hanson said.

Organizers with both of these fundraisers told FOX6 News they are still adding up money raised and said it may take time before victims' families are contacted or given a check.

Meanwhile, Hanson says the money is greatly needed, and hopes someone reaches out to his family soon.

"It's all unexpected and it's appreciated. All that takes time to figure out what goes to who, but there's been no communication whatsoever," Hanson said.
