A warning from Kenosha police: People are passing counterfeit $50 bills

KENOSHA (WITI) -- Kenosha police say they're investigating several cases involving the passing of counterfeit $50 bills.

The Kenosha Police Department's "Financial Crimes Unit" is investigating.

Meanwhile, Kenosha police are warning business owners to be on the lookout for counterfeit bills -- advising that business owners check the bills carefully for security features.

Police say it appears those passing these fake bills are using them to request money orders, or they're making small purchases in order to get real money back in change.

Police are also cautioning folks who use Craigslist to be on the lookout for fake bills. Police suggest Craigslist users meet buyers at a bank. Then a bank teller can confirm whether the bills are authentic.
