18-year-old flees Mount Pleasant police, reaches 90 m.p.h.
MOUNT PLEASANT (WITI) -- An 18-year-old Mount Pleasant man is jailed after allegedly fleeing from a police officer on Monday morning, October 28th.
Officials say an officer to stop the man for passing two vehicles at the same time in a “no passing zone” on Spring St west of 90th St. After turning his squad around, the officer observed the suspect vehicle turn southbound on Ramona Dr. He attempted to catch up to the vehicle while the driver was attempting to elude the officer on village streets. The driver then went back onto Spring St and continued to head Eastbound.
The officer observed the suspect vehicle come close to colliding with another motorist while traveling through a solid red light at Spring St. and Sunnyslope Dr. Then it turned southbound onto Emmertsen Rd.
Police say the suspect vehicle was traveling at roughly 90 mph. The officer was attempting to get this vehicle to stop by using his emergency lights and siren. The vehicle continued to gain distance from the officer.
Finally, another Mt. Pleasant officer headed north on Emmertsen Rd in attempt to help get the vehicle pulled over. The suspect vehicle turned northbound onto Kinzie Ave, before reaching the position of the second officer and came to a stop.
Police identified the driver as Michael Beyer. Beyer apparently claimed he did not stop because he had to pick up someone and drive that person to school.
As a result of this incident, Beyer was issued municipal citations for “Passing in a no passing zone” and “operating without insurance.” Beyer was taken to the Racine County Jail and charged with felony Fleeing and Eluding a traffic officer. His bond is $5,000.
