Hitting the road for the holiday weekend? Construction that will impact your commute

MILWAUKEE -- Hitting the road for the holiday weekend? Ryan Luck with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation joins FOX6 WakeUp to talk about everything that's going to impact your commute.

As a reminder, there will be no freeway lane or ramp closures (other than the long term closures in place) beginning Friday at noon until Tuesday morning at 6 a.m. for the holiday weekend.

Zoo Interchange Project:

Tuesday 9/6:
The National Avenue entrance ramp to I-41/894 South will close for 3 weeks beginning at 6am.

Wednesday 9/7:
A lane closure will go into effect on I-41 North at Watertown Plank Road for 2 weeks.
41 North will go from 3 lanes to 2 lanes in this area. The right lane will become an exit only at Watertown Plank Road. Traffic coming from I-94 West to I-41 North will want to move over to the left as the right lane will exit at Watertown Plank Road. This closure reopens just north of Watertown Plank Road, however we do anticipate back-ups on I-41 North and on I-94 West approaching the ramp to I-41 North, especially during the AM and PM Peak. Commuters from the Northwest may want to consider utilizing WIS 175 to Lisbon/Appleton to I-41 during these two weeks.

Friday 9/9:
There will be an extended overnight closure of I-41 South at Watertown Plank Road as crews set girders for for the I-94 East to I-41 North system ramp over I-41 South. The closure will begin at 10pm and should re-open by early afternoon on Saturday 9/10.

We will provide more details on alternate routes next week. Just a heads up that it is coming, so plans on Saturday morning / early afternoon would take you through I-41 South at the Zoo you will want to watch for details and plan your route.
