Mild on Monday with wintry mix possible at times, including some freezing rain or drizzle. We remain mild the rest of the holiday week with a chances for rain by Christmas.

It was a very cold start to the morning, but a mix of clouds and sunshine should get us into the low and middle 20s this afternoon. More clouds Sunday but also warmer thanks to a south wind. Highs will reach into the low 30s. A wintry mix of snow, rain and freezing rain possible on Monday. Even if it's light, it could make things messy. There is another chance for light rain Christmas afternoon into the rest of the week, and temperatures remain in the 40s.

Winter Weather Advisory continues this morning with lake effect snow through at least noon. A few additional inches are possible - mostly for lakeside areas. Afternoon sun won't do much for temperatures as we stay in the low 30s most of the day but cool to near 12 overnight with single digits inland. After a cool weekend we warm up with highs near 40 by Christmas Day!

Snow will continue overnight as bands of snow form off of Lake Michigan and move through Milwaukee overnight. Additional bands are possible off-and-on through noon. A few additional inches are likely.

When was the last white Christmas in my city?

According to Climate Central analysis, parts of Idaho, Minnesota, Maine and Upstate New York as well communities in the Allegheny, Rocky and Sierra Nevada Mountains annually have the best chances of seeing a snowy Christmas. Meteorological winter, which runs from December through February, is the fastest-warming season across the country and has warmed by an average of 0.61 °F every decade.

Milwaukee DPW snow removal, ice control operations underway

The Milwaukee DPW said it will be working extra hours as snow falls across southeast Wisconsin. Residents are reminded to follow winter parking rules.

Snow showers continue this evening with several inches of accumulation by morning. Visibility will be low at times and snowfall rates of 1" per hour will be possible. 2-6" of snow possible, with highest amounts north. Bitter cold filters in by Friday evening, likely creating icy conditions.

Winter Weather Advisory goes into effect today and lasts into Friday for almost all for SE Wisconsin. Several inches of snow are expected with the highest amounts likely near the northeastern lakeshore areas as lake effect snow linger Friday morning. Highs will be in the low 30s today and tomorrow before much colder air arrives on the weekend with highs in the upper 20s to near 30. A warm up returns for early next week with much of our area near 40 by Christmas Day!

Light snow starts after 9am in Milwaukee and really picks up closer to the evening commute. Very snowy in the evening. A lake enhanced band of snow will move in early Friday morning adding to snow totals. 2-4" in Milwaukee, higher north, lower south.
