Making progress: MCTS, bus drivers union close in on contract agreement

MILWAUKEE -- Contract negotiations between the Milwaukee County Transit System and the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 998 are apparently making progress toward an agreement.Officials with the county said on Friday, August 21st that both sides are reviewing and considering a variety of options and proposals.Both side will be back at the bargaining table on September 3rd to try and reach a deal.

Drivers take note: New traffic configuration now in play on southbound US 45

MILWAUKEE -- On Thursday morning, August 20, the Zoo Interchange project is scheduled to shift US 45 south traffic to the west onto newly constructed lanes, just south of Watertown Plank Road.With this traffic switch, the US 45 south ramp to Bluemound Road will open.Motorists on US 45 south will notice that the decision point to enter the ramp to I-94 east will move 3/4 of a mile north and access to this ramp will no longer be available from the Watertown Plank Road southbound entrance ramps during construction.Traffic on Watertown Plank Road wishing to access I-94 east should utilize WIS 100 or 84th Street.

Rehabilitation project to get underway on US 41/45 in Washington County

WASHINGTON COUNTY -- Beginning August 17, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is scheduled to start work on a rehabilitation project on US 41/45.The project limits extend from the Washington/Waukesha County Line to the US 41/45 split, in Washington County, a distance of roughly six-and-a-half miles.The project will do concrete base repair and resurfacing throughout the project limits; install a high friction surface treatment, while building up the curve banking from Friedstadt Road to Holy Hill Road; and reconstruct the southbound bridge at the US 41/45 split.The initial work involves concrete base patching and shoulder widening.

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee County Transit System officials said Monday, August 10th MCTS and Amalgamated Transit Union Local 998 (ATU) continue to make progress toward a contract agreement.According to MCTS, bus drivers' union officials and MCTS officials are reviewing and considering a variety of options and proposals.The parties will resume negotiations with the assistance of a federal mediator on Friday, August 21st in an effort to reach an agreement on a contract.In late July, supporters of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 998, the MCTS bus drivers union, protested with a camel outside Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele's condo -- saying they're still upset over the contract dispute that led to a three-day strike in early July.

United Express plane makes emergency landing at Mitchell International Airport

MILWAUKEE -- A General Mitchell International Airport official says all passengers are safe after a United Express plane made an emergency landing due to a mechanical problem.Airport spokeswoman Pat Rowe says the United Express flight, operated by United Airlines, departed from Mitchell about 6:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 28th -- when the pilots reported mechanical issues and returned to the airport.A photo of the plane from Mitchell International Airport shows a panel missing on top of one of the engines.

MILWAUKEE -- Frontier Airlines will launch new non-stop service from Mitchell International Airport to Las Vegas McCarren International Airport beginning October 25th.The new flights, which will operate seven days per week, will depart Milwaukee at 6:40 p.m. and arrive in Las Vegas at 8:40 p.m. The return flights will leave Las Vegas at 1:30 p.m. and arrive in Milwaukee at 6:55 p.m. The new route is now available for booking online at flyfrontier.com.Frontier already offers daily nonstops from Milwaukee to Denver, Colorado and seasonal service to Cancun, Mexico.

Traffic alert: Latest ramp closure in Zoo Interchange begins Sunday night
