Witnesses take the stand on day two of Dustin Diamond's trial; "I could see his arm out with a knife"

PORT WASHINGTON -- A testy day of testimony at the trial for former "Saved by the Bell" star Dustin Diamond. He's accused of stabbing a person at a Port Washington bar Christmas night.

Day two of Dustin Diamond's trial was quite a show in the courtroom with some tense exchanges between the attorney and, at one point, the judge.

But as far as the case is concerned, some interesting testimony for several witnesses.

"I could see his arm out with a knife," said Marie Bongean, witness.

Diamond, known for his role as Screech on the 90's television show "Saved by the Bell," and his fiancée, Amanda Schutz, face multiple counts.

He is charged with carrying a concealed weapon and recklessly endangering safety. Both are charged with disorderly conduct in connection with altercation, during which Diamond is alleged to have stabbed another patron -- he says while defending Schutz.

Testimony from members of the group seen in the Grand Avenue Saloon surveillance video, includes that of the stabbing victim, 25-year-old Casey Smet. Smet says his girlfriend was intoxicated and stumbled into Diamond as the former actor sat at the bar.

"Tried to apologize, they didn't want anything to do with it," said Smet.

Shortly after, as they started to leave, Bethany Ward says Schutz shoved another member of the group and Ward stepped in to squash the incident, but was grabbed by Schutz.

"I said let go, a few times...and she didn't and I punched her in the face," said Ward.

This scuffle is what followed as Smet says he came into contact with Diamond.

"Either him or I grabbed each other, and then all I remember is someone pulling me off," said Smet.

But Smet explains he didn't know he had been stabbed until he had left the saloon and witnesses told him that Diamond brandished a knife.

"I was face-to-face with a knife, scared me to death," said Rachel Lanser, witness.

Thursday, May 28th the knife was on display. So, too, is the damage it allegedly did to Smet, as seen in a police officer body camera video.
