Web Fix: Hacked "Zombies ahead" sign warns drivers in Madison

MADISON (WITI) -- Check it out! Somebody hacked a traffic sign in Madison, displaying “ZOMBIES AHEAD” as a warning to drivers.

The sign was on Highland Ave. near the UW Hospital.

FOX6's news partners at WMTV in Madison checked in with Mega Rentals, INC. They're the company that owns the message board that was hacked Monday morning, May 6th.

The message boards reportedly have handheld units that can be used to hack into the boards, but the handheld unit was bolted in and kind of hidden.

This means that whoever hacked the board, must have spent some time opening up the equipment and accessing the handheld unit in order to post the "ZOMBIES AHEAD" message.

Additionally, the message boards in general have pretty standard passwords, which can be looked up online.
