Total loss: Classic car destroyed after fully-involved garage in South Milwaukee

SOUTH MILWAUKEE -- A garage in South Milwaukee was a total loss after a fire Tuesday, September 27th.

It happened near the intersection of Harrison Place and Marshall Avenue shortly before 6:00 p.m.

The fire was called in by neighbors.

We're told there was a classic car inside the detached garage, along with lots of mechanical equipment and tools.

Radiant heat from the fire melted siding on the nearby house, a neighboring garage, and started a vehicle parked in the street on fire. The heat also started a nearby tree on fire and caused the overhead electrical wires to drop to the ground and begin arcing.

Firefighters quickly deployed a hoseline and assumed a defensive attack, protecting the nearby house and garage from further damage. A second line was pulled to protect the neighbor’s house and garage. The fire was quickly knocked down and extensive overhaul was completed.

No one was hurt.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Officials with the South Milwaukee Fire Department posted the following photos from the scene to their Facebook page Tuesday:
