Shoppers, employees brave winter storm for last minute gifts

BROOKFIELD (WITI) -- Many area shoppers battled the winter storm Sunday, December 22nd to get those last minute gifts. Employees and customers marched through snow and slush on their way to Brookfield Square Mall.

"It was pretty slick. I was thinking hopefully the mall calls somebody and tells them not to come in," said Bijan Pounaki. "It was kind of dangerous on the way here."

For some customers, Sunday was the only day in a busy schedule to finish Christmas shopping.

"I do a lot of planning ahead of time so I know what they want so I come in and buy. I really won't shop today. I know what they want so I'll be going to the stores and buying it," said John Wolf.

Mall employees say the weekend before Christmas is usually one of their busiest. The snowfall, however, put a damper on this year's last minute rush. Workers are planning for a busy Monday to make up for Sunday's slow sales.
