Preparation for 35th annual Salvation Army Christmas Family Feast

The Salvation Army geared up on Monday, Dec. 23 for its 35th annual Christmas Family Feast. 

Hundreds of volunteers are preparing to serve meals to roughly 4,000 people at the Baird Center (400 W. Wisconsin Avenue) in Milwaukee on Christmas Day – Wednesday, Dec. 25.

"I'm very blessed to have my elves, or my assistants, the volunteers. I'm God blessed to have them. Because there's no way I could do this by myself," said Bernhard Trivalos, Head Chef for Salvation Army.

Doors will open at 10:30 a.m., and the dine-in-only meal will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Everyone who arrives will receive a sit-down meal with turkey, mashed potatoes, cornbread, green beans, and dessert.

"People are encouraged to be with other people and I think that's why we're seeing the numbers continue to rise every year," said Major Rochelle (Shelley) McClintock, Salvation Army Divisional Commander.

The event, Wisconsin's largest Christmas Day meal, is free and open to the public.
