Powerful winds rip waves over breakwalls along Lake Michigan's shore

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Powerful winds are churning Lake Michigan waters -- and creating spectacular sights along the shore. Waves were forecasted to be well over 20 feet in the middle of the lake -- and shorelines are seeing some erosion.

In Racine, police tell FOX6 News that Pershing Drive by the lakefront has been shut down due to high waves. Apparently those waves are shifting some massive rocks in some cases. Officials are also reporting trees and wires down throughout the city.

Meanwhile, the South Shore Yacht Club on Milwaukee's south side reports one dock is slightly askew because of the damaging winds. A pontoon that was moored at the yacht club was found on the rocks somewhere down the coast. In the end, there's been minimal damage in large part because boats at South Shore had to be out of the water by now.
