New Berlin creating database of homes, businesses with surveillance cameras

NEW BERLIN (WITI) -- A new program is being launched in New Berlin that allows citizens to help police when it comes to solving crimes and bringing criminals to justice.

"Nine times out of 10 you don't get too many people who are seeing what's going on. It makes it a lot easier for our officers that are doing these investigations. We're always trying to get the bigger and better information to make ourselves more efficient," New Berlin Police Officer Scott Hippler said.

New Berlin police are in the process of creating a database that lets officers know which homes or businesses have a surveillance camera which could be used for crime fighting.

The New Berlin Goodwill store was robbed at gunpoint in April. Police say the database could have been helpful in this case.

"Without the citizens help it would be very difficult to do our job and that's why we're trying to get this word out there for whoever in the city wants to help us out," Hippler said.

Anyone with a surveillance camera outside a business or home that would like to help New Berlin Police can contact Hippler at (262) 780-8148.
