Milwaukee fatal crash; man charged, accused of running red light at 70 mph

MILWAUKEE - A Milwaukee man has been criminally charged in a fatal crash that occurred in Milwaukee on June 7.
The accused is 20-year-old Tremayne Andre Brown Jr. and he is charged with one count of second-degree reckless homicide and one count of knowingly operate a motor vehicle while suspended, causing death.

The backstory:
According to the criminal complaint, Milwaukee police responded to the area of 6th and State around 6 a.m. that day for a crash.
Upon arrival, police located two vehicles that had been involved in the collision: a red 2015 Volkswagen Passat, and a blue 2007 Toyota Yaris.
The driver of the Toyota Yaris was pronounced dead at the scene, the complaint states.
Police then spoke with the driver of the Volkswagen Passat, later identified as Tremayne Brown Jr. Per the complaint, Brown was "behaving strangely," and stated that he could not remember where he was going or what day it was.

When police asked Brown whether he had been drinking, he stated that he had consumed "a couple of shots" of gin earlier in the morning, court filings say.

According to the criminal complaint, investigators observed the Volkswagen to have significant damage to the front of the vehicle, as if it had struck the Toyota head on.
Court filings say pole camera video from that intersection captured the collision. The video shows the Volkswagen disregard the red traffic signal, enter the intersection, and collide with the passenger side of the Toyota, per the complaint.

The video then shows both vehicles careen onto the sidewalk at the northwest corner of the intersection, knocking over traffic poles.
According to the compliant, computer data downloaded from the Volkswagen indicated that the Volkswagen was traveling approximately 70 miles per hour at the time of impact. The speed limit on that portion of W. State Street is 30 miles per hour.
Additionally, court filings show that at the time of this collision, the defendant had a suspended driver’s license. The records further revealed that he had been cited/convicted of driving with a suspended license on March 27, 2025, March 31, 2025, and April 4, 2025.

Brown made his initial appearance in court on June 11. Cash bond was set at $50,000.
He is due back in court on June 18 for his preliminary hearing.
