County officials walked the media through tight hallways, outdated courtrooms and deteriorating spaces.

County Executive David Crowley said the building has around $300 million worth of deferred maintenance that is needed.

What they're saying:
"This building is long overdue. It is time to tackle this now. The longer we continue to let this linger on, the more expensive this is going to get," Crowley said. "We still have a long way to go. We just got a design team on board looking at what we can do."

Crowley said the county is already taking steps to design a new facility to replace the current building. That will cost at least $450 million.
"There is no way Milwaukee County is going to be able to rebuild this building on our own," Crowley said. "Our hope is we work with the governor, legislators and see if there is a way to create a partnership to help us to reduce the cost of this particular building for Milwaukee County taxpayers."
