Milwaukee arson near 18th and Keefe; family forced to start over
MILWAUKEE - After a fire was intentionally set at a Milwaukee family's home near 18th and Keefe, one parent did whatever it took to save her kids.

It happened on Wednesday night, Jan. 15, near 18th and Keefe.
Five people were inside the home, including three children.

The incident is under investigation and has been determined to be arson. One person, a 56-year-old woman, was arrested. Police said she set her first-floor unit on fire.

Marissa Rodriguez and her kids got a look at their home for the first time after the fire. It was a raw, heart-wrenching moment.

"It really hurts me. It really hurts," Rodriguez said. "I have to start all over again. I mean, it’s a lot."

Rodriguez said after insuring her neighbor got out safe, she did what any parent would do.
"I just seen the fire keep coming in, and the wind was making it come more, so it was the heavy black smoke and the big fire […] just flames just coming up," she said. "I jumped from right there, from the second floor. So where it is really on fire, that’s where we jumped out."

For now, Rodriguez is focused on getting her family back up on their feet.

"No shirt, no socks, no nothing," she said. "I haven’t even told anyone I need anything. I've been asking for my kids."
