Matthew McConaughey surprises students, makes sure they get home safe

AUSTIN, Texas -- Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey provided several students at the University of Texas with a safe way to travel back home Monday night, November 28th.

McConaughey, a UT alumnus, volunteered with the student government's SURE Walk program on Monday to give rides to students who didn't want to walk home alone at night, UTNews reports.

"Longhorns take care of each other, and it's 'safe' to say Matthew McConaughey agrees," a Facebook post by the University of Texas Student Government says. "Don't forget to use SURE Walk when traveling home late at night; you never know who might pick you up."

The program offers students who don't want to walk alone a person to walk with, according to WHBQ.

The SURE Walk operates from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Sunday.
