Man receives 10-months in prison after texting ex-girlfriend over 21,000 times!

RHONE/FRANCE (WITI) -- A 33-year-old man from southern France was sent to prison on Thursday, September 4th after calling and texting his ex-girlfriend 21,807 times within 10 months. Amounting to more than 70 messages and calls per day.

The man began to harass the 32-year-old woman after she broke off the relationship in 2011, according to the Guardian, which reported the story on Friday.

The unnamed defendant has previously been hospitalized for depression, saying he could not accept the break up. The man was demanding the victim thank him for doing chores around their apartment.

A lawyer for the 32-year-old victim said she could not escape the harassment. After blocking his number, her parents and workplace received calls from him as well.

The man would not stop calling the victim until she thanked him for the housework. In an organized meeting set up by a mediator, she finally thanked him.

The man has not contacted her since, but was sentenced to 10-months in prison and an almost $13,000 fine.

As part of his sentence, he will undergo psychiatric treatment.
