Law enforcement, public officials to kick off 2013 Torch Run

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Law enforcement and public officials will gather at the Wisconsin State Capitol Wednesday, May 22nd to kick-off the 2013 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI).

The Torch Run is the largest grass-roots fundraising program and public awareness vehicle for Special Olympics. The Statewide Kick-Off marks the commencement of the 2013 Torch Run, which will have officers from across the state raising funds and awareness in advance of the 2013 Final Leg on June 6th.

The Final Leg originates from more than 30 locations across the state on this intrastate relay and they will all converge at the University of Wisconsin -Stevens Point on Thursday, June 6 for the SOWI State Summer Games Opening Ceremonies where, for the 27th year, they will run the Final Leg carrying the torch ignited with the Flame of HopeTM to light the caldron and kick off the Games.

The Opening Ceremonies will celebrate the champions of the Special Olympics Movement—the athletes, volunteers, officers, board members, coaches, Agency managers, and staff.
